What the developers say:

Unsung Warriors is a 2d action-adventure game, currently in development.  It is set in Iron Age inspired Europe and mixes fantasy elements with folk tales and mythology.

The game can be played solo or in couch co-op mode.  Enjoy beautifully handcrafted levels.  Fight against ferocious enemies and discover the many secrets of this ancient world.

First impressions

I was offered the chance to play this game by the developers, a day before the demo was released.  I agreed although I was worried that it wouldn’t run on my 7-year-old Macbook.  I needn’t have been, the demo ran amazingly well!

Very soon into the demo, I was amazed at how polished it already was.  The graphics are really crisp, and the world feels alive.  The sound effects are amazing.

I played the game with the keyboard and picked up the controls very quickly.  The game has been designed to be played with a controller, and the developers told me that the best experience is with a controller.  The controls are displayed on parts of the map, as you travel through the levels.

To complete the game, you will need a combination of quick thinking, timing, speed and skill.

The combat is really fun and the special effects are fantastic.

As you make your way through the demo, you can collect coins from the enemies you kill, as well as in hidden chests.  This money can then be spent on weapons and abilities.  There are a good variety of weapons to choose from.

The Ancient world that the game is set in has a bags of potential.  I liked the story writing and found some of it to be quite funny.

The gameplay is pleasingly varied.  You can go from leisurely exploring the levels to having to run a gauntlet and try to beat the clock.

One the hidden chests.

In conclusion

The teams at Osarion and Mountaineer have done an amazing job with the demo.  It’s obvious that so much work and effort has gone into the game already.  I really hope that it achieves its crowdfunding target!  I for one will definitely be keeping track of this game and I cannot wait to play the full game in the near future.
