Introduction
Another product that I have had the enjoyment of reviewing recently is the Acer Switch 7 Black Edition. It is a 2-in-1, convertible with Windows 10 and features a touchscreen with stylus support. I find that most products of this type try to do two jobs averagely, rather than one well. Was the Switch 7 any different? Read on to find out.
Design
The Switch 7 is a smart looking device. It is black and comes in an attractive, brushed aluminium body. The laptop is quite light and surprisingly thin, even still it feels solid and sturdy. A smart design feature of the Switch 7 is the patented kickstand, known as the Acer AutoStand. It’s a clever addition that, using one hand, allows the kickstand to auto-deploy and auto-retract.
Performance
The Switch 7 was able to complete all tasks without any problems. What impressed me was how cool, and quite the laptop kept, even when running more demanding programmes. This is due to the fact the Switch 7 is the World’s 1st fan-less 2in1 equipped with discrete GPU, and it utilises a Liquid Loop fan-less cooling system.
I used the laptop in tablet mode quite a lot, and it was then that I used the fantastic battery-free stylus. I was so impressed with how accurate the stylus was, and it responds to the angle you use the stylus as well as the pressure you apply. My young daughter had lots of fun drawing pictures with the stylus.
In laptop mode, the Switch 7 was equally as impressive. The built-in keyboard and trackpad, which also acts as the cover for the Switch 7 felt solid and sturdy and that it would stand the test of time. The trackpad accurately and typing was a comfortable experience. My only gripe was that I found the Switch 7 quite uncomfortable to use on my lap. Using it on a desk presented no issues at all.
Other aspects of the Switch 7 that impressed me were the full HD+ IPS display and the sound. Games and videos looked fantastic on the laptop, and reading materials were clear and sharp. The Switch 7 also comes with Dolby Audio Premium, and I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality.
Conclusion
The Acer Switch 7 is an impressive, versatile 2-1 laptop. I enjoyed using it in tablet mode as well as laptop mode in equal measure. The addition of the battery-free stylus is a great addition and is accurate when writing and drawing on the touchscreen. There are also welcome additions of Windows Hello and a fingerprint sensor with POA (Power on Authentication) that allows you to turn on the laptop with a single touch. If you’re looking for a 2-1 with many impressive features, I recommend the Acer Switch 7. The only downside to this product is the fairly high price point.
