Sniper Elite has managed to hold its own over the years despite the fact that the shooter genre is quite saturated in the video game market. Not only that, but the Rebellion saga has managed to be recognized among the community, thanks to its deep tactical approach. Additionally, its ballistic realism and emblematic Mortal Kombat-style “X-ray” camera turns every shot into a macabre work of art.

Now, with Sniper Elite: Resistance, the studio has decided to immerse us again in a new installment. This game does everything it can to maintain the spirit of the franchise. Although it remains conservative, it continues to provide a certain layer of depth to its mechanics.

A More Than Well-Known Story

Sniper Elite: Resistance places us in the middle of the Second World War. A established location within this saga, only thios time you play with parallelism. Instead of the already known Karl Fairburne as its protagonist, players are put in the shoes of a new protagonist belonging to the resistance that fights against the Nazi occupation in a territory completely devastated by the war. Having a different perspective keeps Sniper Elite’s story feeling interesting.

The level of detail is very high

The narrative events happen in parallel with Sniper Elite 5, are well structured. There are moments through the game that aree full of emotions. This comes with certain ups and downs, that ensure you don’t lose the rhythm of the game. The missions are designed to meet military objectives and to show the cost of war on humans. You are also able to see how the entire context affects our protagonist, Harry Hawker.

A very Successful Setting

Sniper Elite: Resistance stands out a lot in how faithful it feels to the World War II setting. Each setting is carefully polished and designed according to the era it corresponds to. The cities are almost in ruins, there are dense forests and the military installations are recreated with remarkable affection, highlighting the different underground tunnels that used to be created in the past as incognito bridges to get from one key point to another, usually bases.

The game runs consistently at a resolution of 1440p with a very stable frame rate, correct lighting effects, more noticeable in dark spaces and at night. The color palette is quite serene, reflecting the atmosphere of the time quite well. Although adopting a yellow or orange-tinted atmosphere in the color palette, would better reflect better historically. Still, the game uses muted tones to reflect the hopelessness and brutality of the enemies.

Everything is perfectly worked out to keep us hooked

New Game Modes Offer More Variety

The campaign can be completed alone or cooperatively, which is quite entertaining due to the possibilities of its map. Sniper Elite: Resistance also brings a range of modes and options that extend its duration. Looking beyond the base replayability of its campaign. If you wish, you have the option to leave your game open to invasions from other players. We saw in the previous game also. This means that sometimes you will have a human sniper looking for you. The difficulty rises considerably here, but succeeding in these duels also gives you more experience to improve your skills. Not to mention, it really increases the tension.

The game also introduces propaganda time trial challenges. This is a new mode with timed challenges and limited weaponry -, competitive multiplayer and survival against waves of enemies. Addmittedly, these options are probably not the greatest part of Sniper Elite: Resistance. There are many better-known alternatives in the premium and free market. Nontheless, it is a great extra that reminds us of previous iterations when each campaign was accompanied by a multiplayer.

The multiplayer adds a touch of fun

Improved Gameplay

Sniper Elite: Resistance maintains the essence that has defined the saga for years. While it does not add many new features, it feels fresh due to its difficulty compared to Sniper Elite 5. The game expands on the previous installment, offering another point of view. However, the legendary perforation of bones and destruction of vital organs remains untouched. However, the game doesn’t limit players to ranged combat. Sniper Elite: Resistance is committed to versatility in battle.

In this new installment, the tactical focus has expanded. Not only are we lethal at long range, the game introduces close combat and automatic weapons. While makes the “sniper” concept seem superficial it results in a more entertaining and dynamic feel to the missions. It also allows players to adapt and try different playing styles. The stealth mechanics also offer an improved cover system and enemy artificial intelligence that responds better to our movements. Every step requires a second thought.

Final Thoughts

After many hours of gameplay, we can say that Sniper Elite: Resistance is an enjoyable addition to its franchise. With its combination of tactical action, realism and a well-constructed historical narrative, Sniper Elite is an essential title for fans. However, for any other audience it may be a game of little relevance or lack of importance. This is largely due to how feels as it is has been made for existing followers of the franchise.
