Whoop-Whoop, That’s the Sound of da Police

“Let’s split up and look for clues” is honestly the best way to explain this Crime Scene Investigation mystery, where every little detail will help you solve the crimes and bring those who committed them to justice! When it comes to crime scene investigation as a theme, it’s in almost all pop cultural scenes – a theme that a lot of people enjoy and get highly addicted to – be that in movies, TV shows, video games, or even books.

It’s a theme that has been around for a long time, creating mystery and suspense and getting people to think and come up with their own theories behind what happened, or as what some people refer to as a WHODUNNIT? This title was developed and produced by EQ Studios, who previously created The Painscreek Killings (the bone-chilling, eerie game on the mysterious murder of Vivian Roberts). That game was just their stepping stone to the investigation genre, where they began creating more scenarios and stories based on re-created crimes for you to figure out. This is Scene Investigators.

We’re Here to Solve a Mystery

In Scene Investigators you are tasked with solving re-created crime scenes in what seems to be an exam to get you ready for your job as a detective. You will be given evidence of all sorts, and it is your job to look through, read, and work out who committed which crime. Once you have been through all the evidence you will have questions based on what you have found and you must answer correctly to proceed with the rest of the exams, if you fail… well, you will have to retry. One thing about Scene Investigators is that this is far from an easy game; you will be severely tested, and this only gets harder as you proceed so all I can do is wish you luck, believe me, you are going to need all the help you can get.

Let’s Split Up Gang

All scenarios are different and unique in their way, with different locations and environments including a family home, and a small room where you will start in a police station. This game is very believable, with evidence that sometimes makes the realism of this game unbelievable. At times I thought I was a detective, looking through evidence and trying to solve cases. That is how real this game gets and it is the most realistic I have ever played, even the environment is as close to the real thing. EQ Studios’ developers knew exactly what they were doing!

Another example of the realism of Scene Investigators is the evidence, you will find letters, post-it notes, voicemails on phones and even looking through a wallet and a pile of cash, as you complete more you will unlock more… ‘What crime do you want to solve?’ is the question.

Tonight’s the Night

In Scene Investigators, as I said before, the developers did not make this easy. You will need to search high and low and I mean any papers, phones, letters, and even a kid’s diary. Reading is a huge element of this game, so that is a huge part of this journey. Examine items and look for every single detail that can help you find a clue to help you solve the case, pass the test, and build up to the final test to become the best detective.

Sometimes you will get seriously stuck and the problem with just reading everything is you will have to read it over a few more times just to keep it fresh in your mind. Piece everything together with the game only giving you 70% of the information and you having to work out the other 30% of the case yourself.

Scene Investigators has created a way to force players to figure out who, what, and when things happened with some questions being multiple choices. Sometimes you get a choice where you could just throw an answer in and hope for the best, and some where you will need to look over everything more than once and still can’t find what you are looking for.

When doing some of these cases you are supplied with information a detective would readily be given such as a murder victim, home address, and that sort of thing. However, in this game you must look for everything and sometimes it is not that simple to find, which will frustrate you, but again this is part of the game – and being a detective would not be an easy job, especially with looking through so much evidence, etc.

Scene Investigators can take over 10 and a half hours to complete but can take longer depending on how long you work on a case. It gets harder as you progress, with over 8 levels and scenes to complete and then the last test which is locked until you pass every test, not an easy mission and I recommend a pen and paper to note things down.

I tried getting my viewers involved and even they struggled trying to work out some of the questions. Maybe we are not meant to be future detectives, but some will find this game challenging and enjoyable. After a while I got the hang of what to look for and what to find so maybe I do have what it takes with a bit more practice.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Scene Investigators does exactly what it sets out for you to do; find clues, investigate, and solve the crimes! It was a challenging but interesting take on the crime scene investigation genre, and I did enjoy putting out my own theories on what I think or what I thought had happened before I found out the truth. But if you are a huge fan of this genre or anything like CSI or Law and Order then look no further, this is the closest you will get to the real thing! EQ Studios have outdone themselves and created something truly remarkable – the best true crime detective experience!
