Samsung Galaxy S20 FE – The Rapid Review

Reading Time: 5 minutes

We’ve had the pleasure of reviewing some amazing phones at Rapid Reviews, and the latest one is from Samsung. Please read below for our Rapid Review of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, a phone with many high-end features for a fair price.

What’s In The Box?

You don’t get charged more for this charger.

The latest trend seems to be not including headphones or a charger with the phone that you’ve spent hundreds of pounds on. Thankfully, the S20 FE does have a charger and a 25W Fast Charger at that.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a striking phone. I particularly liked the shiny edges, which shows off the colour, and the matte rear of the phone looks great and prevents too many surface scratches.

The review handset that I was sent came in the rather fetching cloud lavender shade. I must say that I liked the colour and the other options available: cloud navy, cloud mint, cloud red, cloud orange and cloud white. You can tell that Samsung is trying to reach out to as many users as possible with the array of bright colours.

The handset feels solid, and although there’s quite a weight to it, it’s not uncomfortable at all. Samsung claims that the phone is IP68 water and dust resistant and that it can survive being submerged in 1.5 metres of water for around 30 minutes. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has brawn as well as beauty.

Performace

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has 6GB of RAM, fairly standard for a mid-range phone. However, it does feature the Snapdragon 865 processor, found in other, more expensive handsets. As a result, you’re going to be getting a phone that is more than capable of taking on everyday tasks, multitasking, and gaming. It is 5G enabled, so you’ll make the most of the phone’s speed when streaming while out and about if you live in a 5G area.

Display

The display on the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is simply stunning. You’re getting a 6.5″ Full HD+ Infinity-O Display, with a 120Mhz refresh rate which makes a huge difference when you’re scrolling through your photos, moving through the menus, and browsing the web. The fact that there is a tiny bezel, and a small punch hole camera, means that you’re getting a lot of screen real estate, thus making viewing photos, watching videos, and playing games a real treat.

Battery and Charging

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE features a 4,500mAh battery that easily gets you through a whole day and then some. As is typical with most smartphones now, the S20 FE comes with a 25W super-fast charger that provides over 50% charge in about 30 minutes. Another useful feature is wireless power-sharing.

When switched on, you can charge other wireless devices. I tried charging my iPhone 12 mini using this feature, and it worked well. While a useful feature, I can’t say that it is very practical, as you have to have your phone facing down.

Cameras

The best thing about the newest smartphones is that taking professional-looking photos is literally as easy as pressing a button. This is true of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE with its three rear cameras, consisting of a 12MP Ultra Wide, 12MP Wide-angle and 8MP Telephoto lens, and a 32MP front camera. Smart camera features include an AI mode that adjusts the camera settings, depending on what the shooting conditions are. If video recording is important to you, you’ll be pleased to know that the S20 FE films up to 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR 10+ is also supported. The slideshow below features images using all of the cameras, without any filters or edits made.

One UI 3

One UI is Samsung’s Android OS variant, and while I liked the look and feel of it, it did at times feel a little “busy”. I can’t exactly put my finger on why, but for some reason, I didn’t seem to get on with it. An aspect of One UI 3 that I did like were the digital wellbeing applications. It’s easy to find out your screen time, how long you’ve spent on individual apps, as well as setting yourself limits.

Conclusion

For £699, you’re getting a lot of great things; an amazing screen, great battery life, super cameras, and a phone that is fast and reliable. With a variety of colours, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is an excellent option if you’re after a quality Android device.
