Rolling Gunner is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Mebius. It’s set in the year 2061, and a new element to power engines has been discovered. All engines now use Busterium as their fuel source, which is controlled by an automated system called BAC. It has become self-aware and is now determined to exterminate the human race.
There are three ships to choose from, each offering its own unique style. Players must use their vessel to pilot their way through many chaotic stages and take down a multitude of gigantic bosses to save humanity.
Rolling Gunner is no walk in the park, but the difficulty settings have got you covered. Ranging from novice to casual to expert, this ballistic blaster is approachable for all players, new and old.
The soundtrack for Rolling Gunner is electric and upbeat, perfect for the chaos taking place throughout your expeditions. Not only does it provide an energetic playstyle, but it pairs excellently with the vast array of colours and explosions mixed in throughout. The visuals are very flashy and look amazing on the Nintendo Switch, and the art design implemented undoubtedly make their presence known.
Rolling Gunner has certainly found a way to put a unique twist on the typical shoot ’em up games and make it their own. The game is as challenging as it is mesmerising making it one of the most likeable bullet hell games as of late and the classic arcade appearance makes it that much favourable.
Rolling Gunner on the Nintendo Switch offers the standard button and control stick controls, although motion controls could have been an interesting take, I found the game enjoyable either way, both docked and undocked.
I returned to the game quite often as I was eager to beat my high score and enjoyed myself every mission and the turbulent experiences ensured I would not get bored.
