We’ve reviewed many controllers here at Rapid Reviews UK and we were very excited when Razer sent us their Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Xbox Wireless Controller. At £199.99, the Wolverine V3 Pro is a high-end gaming controller designed to give competitive gamers the edge. Its design, features, and performance are aimed at gamers who prioritise precision and customisation. Here’s our Rapid Review of what the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro offers.
Design and Build Quality
The Wolverine V3 Pro brings a premium feel right out of the box, with a sleek, matte black finish and Razer’s signature RGB lighting that makes it stand out. The controller feels solid and well-built, with a slightly smaller profile than the standard Xbox controller, which I personally found to be a comfortable fit. At just 304 grams, it’s noticeably lighter than my usual Xbox Elite Series 2, making it easier to handle over long gaming sessions.
The textured grips add a nice touch, offering both comfort and extra stability. Even with my giant paws, I found it comfortable to hold during extended gaming sessions without any strain. If you’re familiar with the Xbox layout, the Wolverine V3 Pro will feel right at home. It also comes with extra buttons and paddles at the back, which add a nice layer of customisation and control.
Buttons and Customisation
One of the standout features of the Wolverine V3 Pro is the hyper-responsive, mechanical face buttons, which have a distinctive “clicky” feel. I found myself picking the controller up and pressing the buttons, even when I wasn’t gaming! This provides a tactile experience that’s faster and more satisfying than traditional membrane buttons. The floating D-pad felt great and allowed for quick, accurate inputs.
The controller includes six customisable buttons: four at the back and two near the shoulder triggers and the included interchangeable thumbsticks (concave and domed) lets you customise your controller even further. The customisable buttons can be remapped using the Razer Controller Setup app, which is available on both Xbox and PC. However, something to keep in mind is that you can’t change profiles using the controller itself, you had to use the app.
In addition to button remapping, the app lets you adjust trigger sensitivity, vibration strength, and the RGB lighting patterns. While I didn’t make the most of these features myself, this level of customisation adds significant value, as more competitive players will be able to create profiles tailored to specific games and their play styles.
Performance and Latency
The Wolverine V3 Pro comes takes average of HyperSpeed Wireless via included dongle, which ensures low-latency performance. In my testing, the connection was stable and I didn’t experience any lag whatsoever.
The controller can also be used in wired mode, which is advantageous for users who prioritise a zero-latency experience or are concerned about battery life during extended gaming sessions. When playing wired on a PC, a special Tournament Mode is available. This mode enables a 1000Hz polling rate and it can be activated using the companion app or by pressing a controller shortcut. Unfortunately, I don’t have a gaming PC, so I couldn’t test this mode firsthand. Nevertheless, competitive PC gamers will be delighted to know that this option is available.
Battery Life
Battery life is a critical factor for wireless controllers, and the Wolverine V3 Pro delivers up to 20 hours on a single charge, depending on RGB settings and usage. While it may not match some other controllers’ battery endurance, the ability to disable or dim the RGB lighting helps conserve power. For those who play in longer sessions, the controller charges quickly via the included high-quality 3 m USB-A to USB-C cable, or you can play in wired mode.
RGB Lighting and Aesthetic Appeal
Though it doesn’t have the full RGB Chroma lighting that Razer is famous for, the Wolverine V3 Pro does feature RGB lighting that highlights the Razer logo on the controller. Using the Razer app, you can choose from a variety of colors and lighting effects—or turn it off completely to save battery. While primarily cosmetic, this lighting touch adds to the controller’s premium look and is perfect for anyone who enjoys a bit of extra style in their gaming setup.
Price and Value
At almost £200, the Wolverine V3 Pro is a premium controller, and its price reflects this. It’s more expensive than the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Wireless Controller, and is the same price as the SCUF Instinct Pro Wireless Controller Xbox. If you’re a casual, everyday gamer, then this isn’t the controller that you need. However, for serious competitive gamers who want all the bells and whistles, durability, and customisation options, it’s definitely worth the investment.
The Rapid Reviews Wrap-up
The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Xbox Wireless Controller is a well-crafted, comfortable, high-performance controller aimed at pro gamers and enthusiasts. Its combination of low-latency wireless tech, customisable buttons, Anti-drift Hall Effect analog thumbsticks, Hall Effect Analog triggers with Mouse Click trigger stops makes it a top choice for the competitive gamer.
However, its premium price and lack of bluetooth support may not appeal to everyone. For serious gamers who want a versatile, responsive controller packed with features, the Wolverine V3 Pro is a strong contender, offering a significant upgrade over standard controllers.
