The Key to Your Set Up

Logitech have kindly sent us one of their mechanical gaming keyboards, the G413 SE, to review! This got me thinking… When I was growing up, computer keyboards were chunky, awkward things that took up way too much room on your desk. Nevertheless, it served its purpose for chatting to friends on MSN and playing flash games… Now, they’re an integral part of your PC set up. Long hours gaming or working from home mean comfort and durability is of high importance. From lights to changeable key caps, keyboards now have a range of features with a variety of prices too.

So, is the G413 SE just my type, or is it not the key to my set up? Keep reading this Rapid Review to find out.

Professional Play

The G413 SE is a full-size keyboard; having been using a TKL keyboard myself, it obviously takes up a little more space than that. However, the G413 SE is slim and the aluminium alloy top case (“black brushed aircraft-quality 5052 low-carbon”!) is sleek, oozing quality. The LED lighting brightens up the keyboard, looking fantastic in the dark for those late night gaming sessions. It also has a very cool start up sequence where the light travels through each key before lighting up fully!

There’s nothing fancy about the keyboard particularly, but it looks very professional. Personally, I am a fan of RGB lights and my set up looking pretty! If you’re after something no nonsense in appearance, solely focusing on its purpose as a keyboard, the G413 SE does the job.

Built to Last

The G413 SE is designed for gaming, with tactical mechanical switches which Logitech explain “deliver subtle feedback through the actuation moment”. I play a lot of Dead by Daylight which requires quick thinking, and the keyboard input my actions swiftly with no issues. The keycaps are then made with PTB which is highly durable and tough, providing heat and wear resistance. For gamers and people who work from home, long life in a keyboard is a must since it will be used daily.

Since I haven’t had this keyboard for months to speak on this, I can at least say the G413 SE does feel very sturdy and I have had no problems with it so far. I would say the keys don’t feel as bouncy as my current keyboard, which took me some getting used to. They almost felt stiff at first, but once I was accustomed to them typing felt fluid again. However, I do prefer bouncier keys myself, but that’s not to say there’s anything wrong with the G413 SE‘s keys. It’s all down to personal preference.

The keyboard from Logitech also features 6-key rollover along with anti-ghosting technology. I type quite quickly so this is ideal for a keyboard to be able to keep up, while also being good for using multiple keys when gaming. I haven’t had any issues as a keyboard and mouse player on my PC, and my input is seamless.

Just My Type?

The sound of the G413 SE is very satisfying, which you’d expect from a mechanical keyboard. However it isn’t as loud as other keyboards I have used, which is good if you don’t want the sound of your keyboard to be picked up too much. The keyboard also has a suitable length cable to feed through the hole in my desk down to my PC. The USB 2.0 connection meant I could just plug in and type away instantly too!

Overall, Logitech’s G413 SE is more than capable of fulfilling both your gaming and work needs. It’s a sturdy, excellent quality keyboard which I imagine should last you a long time. Personally, I do prefer something a little flashier with RGB capabilities, and I prefer bouncier (if not louder) keys, though this ups the price. However, if you’re looking for a reasonable cost without over the top bells and whistles, the G413 SE is a staple in your gaming or office room.
