Introduction Woblyware’s “League of Evil” for Xbox One is an enjoyable light romp that harkens back to the “old days” of when indie platformers were first introduced onto the Xbox. Looks and Sounds The 8-bit retro aesthetics of the game are on point as the protagonist Mega-Man-style leaps around using a ridiculously satisfying double-jump. Along with the smile-inducing graphics, the music is energetic and entertaining – and just when you think you’re going to get tired of it, it switches to a new song. Gameplay and Replayability Gameplay with the Xbox controller is smooth, with excellent input response times between button presses and onscreen action. League of Evil plays very similarly to Super Meat Boy, with multiple short levels full of varying obstacles that slightly increase with difficulty. If you’re a completionist, the replayability is high as you can achieve 1 to 3 stars depending on your performance and return at any time to increase your star rating. Each level also includes the extra challenge of an awkwardly placed briefcase that you can grab for bonus kudos. Or you can just race through, skipping all the extra fluff because you progress regardless. The difficulty is not high overall, and while that may put off some, it also means frustration levels stay within reason (of course, your personal mileage may vary).  Conclusion League of Evil is a cute, short time-waster for when you’re waiting for people to show up, for the microwave to ‘ding’ or for RDR2 to download.
