Reading Time: 4 minutes Introduction My next mobile phone Rapid Review is of the Huawei P20. Huawei are getting a good repuation for making fantastic devices without the extorioante prices of others phones. Will the P20 impress? Read on for my thoughts on this brilliant phone. Key Specifications Processor Octa-core 2.4GHz Hisilicon Kirin 970 RAM 4GB Screen size 5.8in Screen resolution 2,244 x 1,080 Screen type IPS Front camera 24-megapixel Rear camera 12-megapixel, 20-megapixel Flash Dual-LED GPS Yes Compass Yes Storage (free) 128GB Memory card slot (supplied) N/A Wi-Fi 802.11ac Bluetooth 4.2 NFC Yes Wireless data 4G Dimensions 149.1 x 70.8 x 7.7 mm Weight 165g Operating system Android 8.1 Battery size 3,400mAh Design The P20 is a really good-looking phone and once again proves that Huawei is capable of making quality products. The phone that I had came in Black. However, you can get it in Midnight Blue, Pink Gold and the gorgeous Twilight. The P20 features glass on the front and back, and it reinforced with a metal frame. I did find that the phone slipped off surfaces and my hand at times, and it was a bit of a fingerprint magnet. The Huawei P20 is easy to clean, and you will find yourself doing this a lot. There isn’t a headphone jack, replacing it is a USB-C which most companies now seem to be adopting. Huawei does provide 3.5mm headphone jack adapter in the box. Display and Audio To make space for all of the wonderful technology included, a notch has been added to the top of the screen. While some people are not a fan of this, I can’t say that it made a difference. If anything, I quite liked it, and it allows more of the screen to be used. The screen is a 5.8″, 2244 x 1080px TFT display. The colours were bright with high contrast. The Huawei P20 has a decent speaker and music, and phone calls were crystal clear. The phone also includes Dolby Atmos sound enhancement. Performance The Kirin 970 processor and 4GB of RAM ensured that the Huawei P20 breezed through all tasks. I was able to play all of the most recent games without any noticeable lag. Even after playing games for an extended period, I didn’t notice the phone getting too hot. The phone performed well when multi-tasking. The finger print sensor was extremely efficient, as was the face unlock capability. Storage The phone has 128GB of storage available, which was more than enough for me. The phone does not allow you to use a Micro-SD card. Camera The P20 possesses a LEICA Dual camera on the rear – comprising of a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor for depth and texture. On the front, you have a 24MP wide angle camera. You will not be disappointed with the quality of pictures this phone captures. I was particularly impressed with the photos taken at night or in the dark. A cool feature with the camera is the built-in AI. When enabled, it will register the subject of your photos in real time, and will automatically adjust the camera settings. Battery The battery in the P20 is excellent. I managed to use the phone for gaming and everyday tasks, and I was able to get through the whole day. A significant feature of the phone is that it does charge incredibly quickly, thanks to Huawei SuperCharge. Conclusion I enjoyed my time using the Huawei P20. Having used a P9 Smart before, I was amazed to see and feel, the upgrade in quality. The P20 offers speed, an excellent camera and a reliable battery. It has all the features of other, much more expensive devices including a fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock. The Huawei P20 is a solid, all-rounder which I would highly recommend. Next up is the P20 Pro!
