Hovership Havoc is a twin stick shooter set in a sci-fi based map; you will choose between four classes of ships. The Devastator, its high speed but low range making for a fast escape. Plasma Gatling, best for shot rate but low on damage making every shot count. My favourite, the Laser Blaster, which is all at the same level making it an even fight against the robot menaces, and finally the Pulse Cannon, with high damage and range but low speed.

But wait! There is a leveling up system where you can upgrade your choice of ship with upgrades from your power to your health, which I would really recommend as this game can be very unforgiving, sending multiple enemies at you at once, where most have shields and will shoot so be careful. There are multiple different enemies that you will encounter so be warned.

The music of the game is fast paced and techno, making blasting through robots a blast, setting your adrenaline fast as you battle through the multiple levels in the robot factory. The maps are bright neon-coloured as are the enemies and ships, and the entire map is extremely colourful making it a beautifully graphical masterpiece.

It’s a top down game and only the boss battles will be in third person. Personally I would have preferred it if the entire game was done in third person. I really enjoyed battling the bosses through the levels. Each one had a different type of weapon or look, and some were a lot more difficult than the others. As you play through the levels you will come across different abilities that can be upgraded, so they become more powerful when you acquire them. You will also carry these along with you until you die.

You will use the control sticks to control your ship, the right trigger to shot your preferred ship, the left and right bumpers to use your picked up abilities, and “A” for the speed boost to help get you away fast from the robot bad guys. There are a total of eight levels, three boss fights; you will have to replay most of these levels to collect points to upgrade your ship, or because you must restart after dying. Although there are only eight levels there are rounds of around five sections for each level to be able to proceed into the next level.

To be totally honest I would have loved a type of story-line kind of mode, especially why you start off in a robot factory so that would be something I would have totally gone for. This is completely a single player experience so sadly there is no type of multiplayer or co-operation mode, I think it would have been a lot of fun to be able to go against multiple enemies and bosses with a friend or someone online.

A fan of achievement hunting? Then I have good news for you, this game comes packed with achievements that can be obtained whilst going through it, although some are difficult to get but a lot of fun, so good luck.

All in all, I enjoyed going through the game; sometimes it can be frustrating but it made it more of a challenge and a lot of fun. So, if you are a fan of twin stick action and adventure games, top down games or any type of sci-fi games, then this is a game for you.
