Gunnar Optics – TAHOE

Reading Time: 2 minutes

After being complimented on looking like Iron Man (just without the bank balance), I was hyped to try out the Gunnar Optics – TAHOE. For context, I’ve been wearing the Marvel “I am Groot” Edition at work and during gaming since May last year. Not only are they a conversation starter, but they also offer incredible support for my eyesight during long hours of looking at bright screens.

Lake “Gunnar” Tahoe

Inspired by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe, combined with Gunnar’s pinnacle technology of optical materials and their patented technology, the TAHOE range represents the best of the best.

The glasses are crafted from Italian acetate and lightweight aluminium alloy, with distortion-free and scratch-resistant lenses. These glasses have taken some punishment over the last few months from me, and with everyone trying them on around my workplace, the hinges get a good deal of abuse, but the flexible springs are extremely well made and they feel the same as the day I got them. They’re also the only glasses Gunnar offers in their Mythic range.

You get a microfibre cloth and pouch in the sleek glasses case, along with an incredible 24-month warranty.

How Blue is Blue?

Gunnar sent over the 65 amber lenses, which are not only their most popular style but also give (yes you guessed it), a 65% reduction of blue light at 450nm, which supports your circadian rhythm and retinal health.

These have helped me focus more on screens and reduced my retinal fatigue massively, especially when finishing a day’s work or an evenings worth of gaming. The only downside is having a slightly yellow tint on the world, and then the realisation of how blue the world is when you take them off!

Sleek and Stylish

These glasses aren’t inspired by a collaboration like my previous pair, but the design is striking.

The slate-styled lenses have a marble-like colouring throughout, a smooth inside, and a textured raised side on the outer arms of the frames. These glasses have something to look at from each angle, and friends, colleagues, and customers ask where my frames are from and if they’re prescribed.

Unfortunately, these don’t come with a prescription option, but they’re still an incredible option for those who sit in front of a computer screen all day, work in a brightly lit environment, or avidly game for hours on end.

I’ve noticed when I don’t wear them, my perceived fatigue in the back of my eyes is much more than when I do wear them, and the fact that more screens are in our lives, protecting your eyes is very important.  I’m incredibly impressed with these glasses, which you can find here at Gunnar.com and I can’t give them less than a five!
