GUNNAR Optiks: GROOT, MARVEL EDITION Review
“You look like Iron Man”
“Thanks”
“Just without the suit or the money.”

I AM GROOT
Those were the words of my wife, the moment I put them on!
I am constantly in front of some form of screen, whether that’s my phone, my Mac, or the PlayStation. Eye fatigue is a problem for me, and it can often result in headaches in the morning after a long session. I also reduce the brightness to try and combat the beaming lights on my face.
I am GUNNAR glasses are inspired by Marvel Comics’ very own Flora Colossi, aka Groot. These Legendary glasses are made from sustainably harvested walnut wood and laminated to a carbon fibre frame; they are lightweight and unassuming when wearing them.
They include the GUNNAR patented lens technology and, of course, have customisable options for those who require prescription lenses with different lens options.
Unlike Scarlet Witch, I haven’t lost my Vision, so GUNNAR sent across their amber-tinted 65% blue-light blockers. There are also options for 35% clear lenses and a blue-tinted 90% outdoor sunlight lens. Each lens boasts an impressive description, and the performance level these glasses sit-in is their “Legendary” scale.
These also block 100% UV, but I have no way to test that. I did however prefer my specialised sunglasses for outside and wore these constantly inside when working or gaming.
I AM GROOT
The box, a stylish customised case, included a microfibre pouch and microfibre cleaning cloth, each classified as eco-friendly. Like Groot in the Marvel Universe, these glasses are solid and flexible. I’ve given the spring hinge rigorous testing.
I’ve also had many friends try them on who were intrigued by the blue-light filter. When taking them off, their shock and awe is always fun to watch. I can’t attest to the smudge resistance, though, as I often used the microfibre cloth to clean minor blemishes from the lens.
I’ve been wearing these GUNNAR glasses every day, working and gaming, and the first time I put them on, I didn’t notice much in the way of difference. After eight hours, when I took them off, my entire life turned blue, and my kids were as blue as Yondu. I couldn’t comprehend how much blue light I am accustomed to every day.
I also noticed I could sit in front of my displays much longer, the fatigue wasn’t as noticeable, and my headaches reduced in the mornings after a gaming session.
These glasses look superior. I’m usually the all-black type, but the walnut frame and amber lens are ideally suited. I’ve also worn them to meetings and I have had nothing but positive comments on their design and look, definitely a talking point, especially when you don’t usually wear glasses.
I AM GROOT
The question here is whether I would buy them.
Considering I do not require prescription lenses and only use sunglasses outside, I’ve never considered blue-light filter lenses to support my screen time and protect my eyes. However, after experiencing their positive impact on my eyesight over the past ten days, I’m pleasantly surprised at how much change they’ve made.
So, to answer my question. Yes, I would buy GUNNAR Optiks products and have already recommended them to a few friends who suffer the same ailments.
