Fallout X Gunnar Vault 33 Glasses Review

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Have you ever been working at your desk, only to notice your eyes starting to strain? Chances are, you’re feeling the effects of blue light from your screen.

“But my display has a built-in blue light filter,” you might say. Sure, many screens do—but those features often don’t kick in until sunset. For the rest of the day? Your eyes are left to deal with the strain. This is where Gunnar comes in. With over 20 years of experience combatting digital eye strain, they’ve teamed up with the Fallout franchise to bring us the Fallout Vault 33 glasses. Let’s take a closer look.

Design & Build Quality

The Fallout Vault 33 glasses feature a Gunmetal / Olive colorway with amber-tinted lenses and a retro-inspired square frame. A small “Vault 33” logo sits subtly on each side, making the branding understated. The same, however, can’t be said for the included accessories.

The case is bright blue with yellow Vault-Tec branding, featuring the logo on the top, additional branding underneath, and a “Revolutionary safety for an uncertain future” quote inside. It’s made of solid metal, offering great protection, but it’s fairly bulky. The included pouch and cleaning cloth are a slightly lighter shade of blue, both featuring Gunnar and Fallout logos—plus a Vault Boy print on the pouch.

Performance & Blue Light Filtering

At Rapid Reviews UK, we’ve previously reviewed other Gunnar glasses (like the Groot Marvel Edition—read our thoughts here). But are these any different?

Yes, actually. While the frame style is unique, the key difference is their performance rating. Gunnar ranks their glasses on a five-tier scale, and these Fallout glasses fall into the Epic tier (second-highest). According to their website:

“Upgrade to frames with customisable and ultra-durable hybrid materials. EPIC polycarbonate lenses sport the G-Shield® Plus coating stack with enhanced anti-reflective properties and Hard Coat. Protective flat fold case included.”

Interestingly, this higher-tier performance comes at a lower price point than the Groot edition, making these a solid value option.

The glasses come with two lens options: Clear (35% blue light blockage) and Amber (65%). We tested the Amberlenses, which provide superior filtering but slightly alter color perception. If color accuracy is critical for your work, you may want to opt for a lower-filter option.

Real-World Use & Comfort

So, do they work? Simply put—yes. Wearing them throughout a full workday or a late-night gaming session significantly reduces eye strain, enhances contrast, and helps with focus. Compared to other brands, the quality of Gunnar’s lenses stands out. These are not a gimmick.

Final Verdict

The Fallout Vault 33 glasses from Gunnar are an excellent choice for anyone looking to protect their eyes while adding a touch of Fallout flair. The subtle, stylish frames let you channel your inner vault dweller while reducing strain and improving visual comfort. If you’re spending long hours in front of a screen, these are well worth considering.
