Good Things Come In Small Packages

Here we are again, another hardware review, and would you believe it, it’s another Bluetooth speaker, this time from Edifier. While my last speaker review was a leave-on-the-side larger unit, this is more a portable, rugged and on-the-go model that packs quite a punch for such a small form factor. The Edifier MP100 Plus is a compact and versatile Bluetooth speaker that aims to deliver powerful sound in a portable package. As a user who values both convenience and audio quality, I had high expectations for this device, and it didn’t disappoint.

Starting with the design, the Edifier MP100 Plus boasts a rugged and durable construction. Its compact size makes it incredibly portable, allowing me to take it anywhere without any hassle. The speaker is also IPX7 rated, which means it’s dust and water-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor use or for those who enjoy an active lifestyle. Its waterproof rating is quite high, which means it can be underwater for 30 minutes. I don’t know why you would want it underwater for 30 minutes but there you go. This small, compact unit feels light enough to carry easily, yet feels very sturdy and looks like it can take a knock or two. Perfect for the function it’s designed for.

Punchy Portability

When it comes to audio performance, the Edifier MP100 Plus delivers a surprising amount of power for its size. I was initially shocked by how much sound came from such a small device. Speakers have come on a long way since I was a lad. The speaker’s 5-watt driver produces clear and crisp sound across various genres of music. I was particularly impressed with its ability to handle low frequencies, as the bass response was surprisingly punchy for such a small device. The sound quality remains impressive even at higher volumes, with minimal distortion.

I will mention, however, that due to its compact size, the Edifier MP100 Plus might not deliver the same level of audio immersion as larger, more high-end speakers. While it performs exceptionally well for its size, it may not satisfy audiophiles seeking the ultimate in sound quality. Let’s be honest, though, if you want a high-quality, super sound, then you would not be using a small, portable speaker designed for being out and about with.

Effortless

The connectivity options and the ease of use on offer here are both worth noting too. The unit features Bluetooth 4.2, which ensures a stable and reliable connection with every device I threw at it. The pairing was effortless, and the speaker maintained a strong connection without any dropouts during my usage. There is nothing worse than fiddly connection issues, and none of that was an issue here. Additionally, the built-in microphone allows for hands-free calling, which is a convenient feature when using the speaker for conference calls or personal conversations. All in all, the useability and technology of this device is spot on. Everything is effortless, and let’s be honest, that is what we all want from life. Isn’t it?

Battery life is another area where the Edifier MP100 Plus excels. With its built-in rechargeable battery, I was able to enjoy music for about 10 hours on a single charge, depending on the volume level. This extended battery life is particularly useful during outdoor activities or when I’m away from a power source for an extended period. This again lends itself to a travel speaker, its small size, and long battery life mean that most trips can be accompanied by your favourite heavy-metal bangers or your podcast of choice.

Another standout feature of the Edifier MP100 Plus is its built-in strap and carabiner clip. This design element allows me to easily attach the speaker to my backpack, belt, or any other suitable location. It adds to the speaker’s portability and convenience, ensuring I can enjoy my music without worrying about carrying it around separately. The Edifier MP100 Plus really is an attractive design and form factor. Its striking colour scheme, rope clip, and shape really do catch the eye.

With its long battery life, easy connectivity, and rugged design, the MP100 Plus is a reliable companion for any music lover seeking a compact and versatile Bluetooth speaker.

In fact, I think my daughter already has her eyes on it, wanting to take it to work with her while she preps in the kitchen. Kids eh? I can’t have anything for myself. Haha.
