Design & Fit
My first impressions of the RHA TrueConnect was excellent. I especially liked the case that the earbuds are stored and charged in. It looks and feels like a high-end, quality product. The earpods themselves come in a stylish, black finish and weigh very little, and the stems are also quite small, which I liked. The earbuds were a little bit of a fingerprint magnet. However, this didn’t bother me as much as it might others.
The RHA TrueConnect comes with a large number of silicone ear tips in different sizes. You also get some Comply™ Foam ear tips. This ensured that I was able to find the perfect sized ear tips. At first, I found the Comply™ Foam ear tips felt a little strange. However, after a little while, I can’t imagine using anything else. The ear tips felt comfortable in my ears and provided the perfect seal. I’ve worn the RHA TrueConnect earbuds to the gym and not once did they come close to falling out. Talking of the gym, these headphones were able to stand up to a barrage of sweat.
Battery life
During my time testing the TrueConnect earbuds, I was able to get around the advertised 5 hours of playtime. A fully charged charging case will give you another 20 hours, 4 x 5 hours, of listening time. Furthermore, if you’re in a rush, you can charge the earbuds from zero to around 50% in only 15 minutes. Great for people on the go!
Sound Quality & Connection
Primarily, I use my headphones to listen to live radio, music and podcasts. The RHA TrueConnect earbuds provide an excellent, well-balanced audio output. Even at the highest volume, music didn’t sound ‘muffled’. Although the earbuds don’t advertise noise cancellation as a feature, they do a great job of isolating external sounds and the audio. Having the Comply™ Foam ear tips also gave a better seal which helped in this respect. Call quality was also impressive and I didn’t experience any dropouts.
Controls
The RHA TrueConnect earbuds have built-in controls. One tap to pause, two taps on the right earbud to turn the volume up, three taps to turn the volume down. It took me a while to learn the nuances of the controls, but once I did, I found that they generally worked well. At times, I didn’t get the expected result, although more often than not, the controls worked well. The only slight oddity was that the RHA TrueConnect earbuds don’t turn off unless they are put back into the charging case. After some research, I discovered that the earbuds have an auto turn off feature after 30 minutes. I didn’t find this feature as I placed the earbuds back into their case whenever I’d finished using them.
Conclusion
The TrueConnects have all of the features you would expect from a product retailing for nigh-on £150, and they look and sound great. The RHA TrueConnect is an excellent option for people looking to purchase true wireless earbuds, and I highly recommend them.
