Embark on a mesmerizing journey through the whimsical world of Toy Monsters, where fantasy meets immersive technology in a captivating tabletop tower defense game. In Toy Monsters the gameplay of the world takes place in front of you in your living room. You can use passthrough mode to play in your space as the monsters advance towards you on the field of play.

Each world comprises stunning visual graphics and vibrant landscapes. With each progressive level, more rows need defending. You work hard to keep monsters from breaking down your doorways. Toy Monsters takes its inspiration from Plants vs. Zombies in a fantastical world that pits toys against the hordes of armies.

You start off with a simple bit of toys to defend and attack the incoming enemy monsters, but eventually you will gain tactical items that let you stun and blast your opponent into oblivion. As you defeat enemies or have star lamps strewn around the battlefield you will need to catch stars that drop from the sky. These stars are the game’s currency which allows you to unlock upgrades and build up your overall defense.

Delve deeper into Toy Monsters to encounter a compelling level-based progression system that keeps players engaged and motivated. Unlock new defenders and master the use of magical potions to adapt your strategies and tactics to overcome new challenges in every level. There are multiple worlds to explore and increasing difficulty levels will make you rethink your battle strategies. Along the way you will uncover new types of defenses that will help you defeat the enemy waves as they move towards you.

At the heart of Toy Monsters are the various items and defenders that players can utilize to thwart the advancing hordes of monsters. Each item, from the versatile Star Lamp to the explosive power of the Jack, brings unique mechanics to the table. They add depth and replayability to the game. Among the items you get my favorites were the Tank which shoots projectiles far distances but at a slower rate and the trusty Dinosaur which could light a flame on up to three enemies at a time.

One thing that impressed me the most was having the world of Toy Monsters on the Meta Quest 3 in passthrough mode. You can place the battlefield, where reality and fantasy collide in a mesmerizing tabletop tower defense experience. With innovative hand tracking and mixed reality passthrough technology, Toy Monsters invites players to immerse themselves in a magical realm and defend against hordes of menacing monsters with strategic prowess.
