Kid Tripp – Nintendo Switch
Next up is Kid Tripp on the Nintendo Switch.
Title: Kid Tripp
Publisher: Four Horses
Genre: Classic platformer, action, 2D
Audience: All
Price: £3.59. I managed to get it for £1.79 as it was on offer.
Firstly, I just wanted to be honest and say that this isn’t the type of game that I would usually play. However, when I saw it on offer, I thought I’d give it a go.
Looks and sounds
One thing you have to say about this game is that it looks brilliant. A mixture of 8-bit graphics and pixel art brings back nostalgic memories of games featuring a famous plumber and a certain blue hedgehog. The game does have a really catchy soundtrack.
Gameplay and replayability
The game is a side scrolling platformer in which you have to control your character, Kid Tripp, using a mixture of skill, timing and luck. You can collect coins along the way, every 100 will get you an extra life. There are various animals that try to stop you from reaching the end of the level. It’s up to you whether you shoot the animals or avoid them.
I found myself so focused on not falling that everytime I played, my decisions to collect the coins or kill the animals was totally random.
I did somehow get an achievement which did give me some satisfaction!
I know it’s probably going against the whole point of the game, and I just want an easy way out, but I would have liked there to have been some checkpoints in each level.
Conclusion
This rapid review is just my opinion of the game. Hats off to the team at Four Horses for creating a game which looks and plays so good on the switch.
However, after giving it so many goes, I’ve decided that it’s just not for me. Although saying that, I’ll probably keep going back to it now and again.
