Introduction
Set in the year 2087, Stardust Galaxy Warriors Stellar Climax and chaos is reigning across the galaxy, and it’s up to Galaxy Warriors, a team of mech pilots to put a stop to it. Piloting a range of mechs, each with its own special set of skills, can you bring peace to the galaxy once again?
Looks and sounds
If you’re a fan of old-school 80’s arcade music and sounds then Stardust Galaxy Warriors Stellar Climax is going to rock your world. The soundtrack fully embraces that 80’s arcade vibe that reminds me of the arcade games of my childhood. Couple this with the retro sound effects of enemy ships exploding, your weapons hammering at enemy shields and you’ve got a full retro sound package right there.
The graphics of the game, not surprisingly match with the 80’s vibe of the soundtrack. Vibrant colours, background animations add great depth to each level. The space levels all have their distinct styling while planet based levels range from underwater levels to mountainous. It’s all beautiful.
Gameplay and replayability
Stardust Galaxy Warriors is difficult, even on easy mode. Or maybe I suck at this type of game, but it certainly doesn’t stop my enjoyment of the game. There are four modes to chose from – Campaign, Gauntlet, Strike and Challenge. Campaign mode sees you take on a single player storyline. Gauntlet and Strike are two different types of arcade mode. There is plenty of content here to keep players happy, and the arcade modes alone will speak to those who love trying to beat their previous scores. There’s also multiplayer for those looking to play with friends – up to 4 players can mech up.
There are five mechs for you to choose from each with a variety of weapons to choose from. You have primary and secondary weapons which tend to be a gun and missiles, and you also have a sword which is good for close combat when there are lots of small ships nearby. You also have a special weapon that becomes available as you power up which comes in handy if you find yourself becoming overwhelmed. It’s all super simple to control, but it can become a bit confusing when there are lots of enemy ships and fire on the screen at once.
Conclusion
Stardust Galaxy Warriors Stellar Climax is a great little arcade game for the Nintendo Switch. It’s great for both quick blasts when you have a spare half hour during your day and for those who love score based arcade fun.
