Kiwis are adorable fluffy little birds native to New Zealand. Did you know they are also flightless birds? You would think being a flightless bird, they wouldn’t carry much talent, but apparently, they can also run teleposters. (Post offices to you Non-Newzealenders)! With this in mind, let’s find out how we got on taking the role of this cute and innocent curiosity.

Keywe begins by introducing you to what the game is all about. Taking residence in New Zealand, your life as a kiwi begins with your job at the local teleposter. Jeff and Debra tackle tasks and useless staff to ensure all mail is delivered efficiently. With obstacles to overcome along the way, and ensuring all mail is sent out on time is a lot more complicated on the surface than it may seem. You can play the game in two modes, single-player or two-person. However, this game is advertised as much more of a two-player game and therefore more enjoyed alongside a partner postie in crime.

The game structure focuses on the challenges during your shift while working at the teleposter. One shift may include a day in the sorting office, while another day will see you decoding messages and putting letters together.

All the challenges are the same each week. However, and this is a very important however, each week brings new problems. One week you will find yourself at the sorting office, and it’s overwhelmed with bugs. The next week there may be a blizzard. Over time, while playing the game you gain experience with the postal room issues. While working alongside your partner, you both must overcome these challenges to ensure all mail is sent on time. Hopefully with no arguments along the way. No job is too big or too small. Even if the entire office is flooded, it’s the perfect time to work even harder. A great example can be seen below, where you must manoeuvre from one side of the room, collecting the words for a letter, but all while trying and avoid falling into the dangerous smoke.

Perfect Outfit for the Job

All challenges are timed, and you can earn stamps based on your completion time. There are bronze, silver and gold times. All stamps collected can be exchanged for cool accessories to wear including some sunnies or a funky new hat. But don’t be fooled by their fluffy personalities, KeyWe is a lot harder than it looks!

Over the years, myself and my boyfriend have made a smashing team when it came to Nintendo games. Overcooked 2, Little Nightmares and Mario were no challenge for this dynamic duo. But little old Keywe was a struggle. I have to give it to the developers of the game, this is certainly a challenge.

At first, when we began playing, it took a little while to get used to the controls. Kiwis are slightly limited in what they can do, so attempting to press the right button at the correct time took a lot of trial and error. The birds themselves also do not carry much speed between them so completing any challenge to a gold standard took a few practices. We weren’t the best at this game and I think we rarely achieved above a silver timer score. That is not through any fault of the game, however, as despite this it provided hours of endless fun and entertainment. The perfect combination for building the best team.

Pick of the Parcels

Despite our terrible attempts, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It doesn’t feel like there is a sudden panic when playing, as you are given plenty of time to complete to challenges. The quirkiness of the characters adds a certain charm to the game and brings some calm to an utterly chaotic task.

My only complaint is that it’s only for 1 or 2 players. Imagine the levels and games that could be explored if there were up to four Kiwis. It would be mayhem. I would have loved to play this game as part of a games night with friends, but nonetheless, it was still fun with just the two of us.

If you are looking for a cosy co-op game for yourself and a partner, I highly recommend picking up Keywe. It has a brilliant structure to its challenges, and the general theme of the game makes it feel warm and cute. It’s just another day at the post office ensuring all mail is on time. Who knew working at a post office would be so fun?
