RIG 500 Pro HX
Thanks to Julian Brignol and the team at Plantronics UK, I have been given the chance to test and review the RIG 500 PRO HX gaming headset. The following is my Rapid Review of this excellent headset.
I’m by no means an audiophile, and I won’t be using any technical language. What I will be telling you is if the headset sounds good playing games, and if it is good value or not at £69.99.
Inside the box
The box contains the headset, microphone boom, in-line volume controller as well as the added bonus of a code for Dolby Atmos.
Design
The RIG 500 PRO HX gaming headset looks cool – it almost seems futuristic with its exoskeletal frame. Even though it is made of plastic, it feels sturdy and durable, and it actually looks like a more expensive product. When you pick the headset up, you will be surprised by how light it is.
Upon further inspection, you will see that the ear cups can be removed from the frame, and adjusted for comfort. I needed to move both cups to the lowest position. This is a great feature and will allow the headset to be used by different games.
You can remove the ear cups as well. The Esport edition comes with two sets of ear cups. However, the HX only comes with the ones attached. Therefore, I didn’t test out this feature. The self-adjusting headband makes the headset even more comfortable and allows you to play for longer gaming sessions without any discomfort.
The ear cups that did come with the headset were comfortable and cushioning. They also did an excellent job of cancelling out any background noises, allowing you to focus on the game.
There is a detachable microphone which you are able to mute by returning it to an upright position. I found this to be a really useful feature. The headset also has the added extra of in-line volume
Audio
I decided that the first game I would play using this headset would be the new Call of Duty Black Ops 4. It was the right decision!
I was blown away by the quality of sound that these headsets produce. You can hear the bullets ripping through the air as they’re fired at you. Sounds which I couldn’t distinguish before were obvious. For example, enemy chatter and footsteps. I could even hear an enemy RC-XD approaching from what seemed very far away.
The explosions were epic and added to the experience of the game. I swear at some points; it felt like my ears were vibrating!
I played some more games of Black Ops 4 with my mates so that I could test out the microphone. My friends could hear me very clearly and the mic was easy to adjust. The flip to mute feature of the microphone is a great
Conclusion
So there you have it, my Rapid Review of the RIG 500 PRO HX gaming headset. I’ve got to say, this headset is an absolute pleasure to use, and it makes you feel much more involved in the game. For £69.99, you’re getting a high-quality product without breaking the bank.
