Starting line
If Minecraft, Micro Machines and F-Zero had a baby, Chiki-Chiki Boxy Racers would be the result. I had a lot of fun playing this game. It was very easy to pick up and before long I was drifting around every corner of the track. The game offers two control modes, stick or handle. I personally felt that the stick option offered the best experience.
Game Modes
Before each race, you are required to choose your car. When you start the game, most of the vehicles are unlocked. Winning races will unlock each car. You can also customise each car with a randomly generated mixture of colours.
Race – There a number of races to complete in three different locations; City, Jungle and Beach. Within each area are 4 races in which you must finish in the top three positions to qualify for the GP Race. The GP is a combination of the 4 races, and the position you finish in regards you with points, a la Mario Kart. The winner is the driver with the most points.
Battle – Battle Mode is good fun and lends itself nicely to multiplayer with the family. There are four options within Battle Mode,
Coins – A party game where you compete for coins.
Smash – A party game where boxes drop and you compete for points.
Paint – A party game where you paint the stage competing for the best time.
Goal – A party game where you score by getting the ball in the goal.
Online Mode
Online mode has the same options as offline mode, race and battle. You can choose to play with friends or worldwide. I tried to play against drivers from around the world.
However, after choosing my car, I waited for someone to join but the time ran out. Unfortunately, this happened a couple of times. I will keep trying though because I believe that it would be a lot of fun.
The option to enter a code to enter a friend’s room or to create your own is also available.
Finishing line
Chiki-Chiki Boxy Racers is a simple, fastpaced, fun racing game which I really enjoyed playing.
My only real issues with the game were that I was able to get 1st place in all races after only a couple of hours, and I had an issue finding an online race.
That being said, with the variety of game modes, unlockable cars, local and online multiplayer, for £8.99, this game offers good value for money.
