Whether proving you’ve got the fastest draw is your thing or if hunting for legendary animals in the snowy peaks is, strap on your spurs that jingle jangle jingle and head to the infamous American West for some classic outlaw, pistol popping fun in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the third instalment into the gripping action-adventure series and is the prequel to Rockstar’s 2010 Red Dead Redemption, taking what made it so special and expanding on it.
This immersive world is sure to leave you stunned for 100s of hours as you follow the Van Der Linde gang every step of the way on their way to a life of luxury after just one more big score. The game captures your heart with a story of family and betrayal leaving you wanting not only more, but justice for those wronged on your adventure.
Rockstar’s latest engine doesn’t disappoint and is a humongous improvement to the one used for their previous massive release, Grand Theft Auto V. The game boasts breath-taking visuals such as sun’s rays beautifully piercing thick woods, realistic mountainsides, and the dynamic weather system adds a whole new level of immersion and beauty.
Not only are the visuals fantastic but the sound is absolutely on par, from wildlife and creatures chirping as you stroll along to NPC’s having real conversations in the bustling and lively towns.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled to the brim with detail, more than any other game that I’ve seen before, to name a few details; bruises and scratches appearing as you punch a drunkard in the face during a fight, corpses slowly decay over time, weapons lose effectiveness if not taken care of. The police even use real tactics to take you down as you storm across fictional America. I’ll leave it there because I could sit here all day naming every little phenomenal detail Rockstar added to enrich this authentic experience.
Now, I’ve been a fan of the Red Dead series for many years, and I’m in love with this latest dose of cowboy shooting but even I can admit that this game isn’t perfect and comes with its fair share of issues and bugs as any good triple-A title does.
While not all are game-breaking, they all will most definitely break your immersion such as giant Tug Boats attempting to sail its way through the middle of a desert or stumbling across random piles of dead horses.
While some bugs are as simple as your character pulling a strange, unnatural face during cutscenes or losing bits of textures, they will still ruin your immaculate immersion.
On top of the bugs, the game offers some annoying features (this is strictly my opinion) like an unforgiving law system putting a horde of boys in blue your way after you commit even the most insignificant crime or how there will almost always be a witness to your wrongdoing.
No matter how secluded you think, you are. While annoying, these features can be fairly easily looked past.
To summarise, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a vibrant, content-filled, gripping story that offers you the ultimate outlaw experience available, making us fall in love with Arthur Morgan (our new protagonist) the way we did with John Marston back in 2010 and is an absolute MUST play for any avid gamer.
I had the time of my life experiencing everything this game had to offer, sinking many weeks into this game and still finding new details after three complete playthroughs, always leaving me wanting more. This game can appeal to all kinds of gamers.
Laid back? Go to your favourite fishing spot and try to catch the biggest fish you can out strength. Want a more action-packed experience? Head to the Saloon, knock back 5 shots and start the biggest bar brawl possible. I seriously cannot recommend this game enough.
